Welcome to the website of Houserstock. As stock photography agencies stack up these days, we’d best be described as independent niche-players -- specializing in travel imagery. In reality, our markets aren’t all that “niche” in that they include travel guidebooks, magazines and newspaper travel sections; calendars; posters; billboards; text and reference books (especially in the fields of geography, history and social studies); travel industry ads & brochures, websites & savers; DVD/CD covers, and even needlework patterns. That’s not to mention the odd photo used for a paint can label or a Revlon lipstick counter card. Which goes to show that well-crafted, imaginative and graphically striking images can communicate effectively in many ways, thus becoming commercially viable. And that is the very essence of our mission here at Houserstock.
Now in our 28th year as a highly respected source for travel imagery from the U.S. and more than 160 countries world wide, we are slowly and carefully making the costly and time-consuming transition from analog (a library of more than 500,000 35mm and 6x4.5 transparencies) to digital. Our website, beautifully designed by San Diego-based internet solution experts VisionDance, launched in February, 2005. It presents online a tightly edited and, we must say, vividly stunning collection of our very best images from our most recently-covered destinations.
We love our “work” and the wonderful life it affords us – so it’s just natural for all of us to take a genuine interest in our clients. We are a friendly, knowledgeable group of professionals – absolutely determined to help make our client’s image searches effortless, accurate and successful.
Houserstock features the work of principals Dave G. Houser, Jan Butchofsky and Rankin Harvey plus selected images from a number of other travel specialists. The names to the right link to each photographer's biography and/or personal website where existing.
